Iconic Nollywood actress Joke Silva is passionate about AUN. A proud AUN parent, the charming screen goddess who was a guest at the last combined Commencement ceremony, took time to share her experience watching her son, Olugbenga, graduate from this University, thus becoming the finished product his parents had hoped for.
Olugbenga graduated from AUN's Literature and English program, which is chaired by Professor Agatha Ukata. Holding the torch of the next generation in the family business, Olugbenga was an active member of the AUN Theater Club. His last involvement was as Stage Manager in the play, "Man Talk, Woman Talk", written and directed by Professor Ola Rotimi.
The inimitable multi-award-winning actress shares her AUN experience:
“This University (AUN) has improved my son (Olugbenga) academically; he found his feet through the guardianship of his professors and that made him finish well.
“I observed through speeches made by students that AUN allows students to discover who they are and what they can do. My son was able to utilize his talents and got very involved in creating theater. We will find out his area of specification while he works in the film house.
“I've been to one of the classes in the University for a talk, and the cleanliness is amazing; it doesn't look like just a preparation to entice a parent, but I discovered it is a routine. I can tell a lot about how an organization is from the restroom. I also like the fact that there was no special treatment for my son-- neither was he tagged OLU JACOBS or JOKE SILVA's son. He was treated just like everyone else and I'm happy for that.
“My daughter-in-law, Blessing (Douglas), who was your student once, invited some of my colleagues, including Richard Mofe Damijo, to speak at an event her foundation organized. I was also invited, and I enjoyed the time I spent with AUN students. I knew this was an opportunity for my son to get an -style education within our own cultural space in Nigeria. This is very important for the emotional well-being of every child.
“If a parent can afford to send their children to a private university, I will advise them to come to AUN as they get an -style education for their kids. I'm very excited that Dr. Margee is back because she laid such a good foundation and I know those opportunities she opened for students will be utilized. Bringing your kids here is an investment.
“It is also a good initiative that the student can be part of the school's administration. I like the fact that despite the loads of work he (Olugbenga) had, he made out time to study and still passed his exams. From this, I understand that the school has taught him to manage time qualitatively”.
