In a moving tribute to resilience and the transformative power of education, the 黑料网 (AUN) marked the 11th anniversary of the Chibok school abduction with a significant gesture of support. On Monday, April 14, 2025, 68 Chibok girls studying at AUN publicly received laptops donated by acclaimed British journalist and humanitarian Isha Sesay.

Against the background of the ceremony marking the 2014 Chibok school abduction, Ms. Sesay's donation of the laptops to the Chibok girls symbolizes hope and progress. The laptops were a testament to Ms. Sesay's commitment to the girls' education and future. On January 29th, Ms. Sesay had announced the donation via Zoom, offering heartfelt encouragement and reaffirming her dedication to the students' academic and personal journeys. "You are not defined by the darkness of your past," she emphasized. "These tools are keys to unlocking your potential - proof that the world believes in your future."

AUN President Dr. Dewayne Frazier delivered a passionate address, reframing the narrative around the survivors. "These are not the 'Chibok girls' frozen in time as victims," he declared. "They are Chibok women - mothers, students, sisters, and role models. They are scholars shaping their destinies, thriving within our AUN family and beyond." Dr. Frazier underscored the universality of their struggle, stating that the 2014 abduction targeted education itself, not a religion. "That night in 2014, terrorists targeted not a religion, but education itself. Their crime was hatred for progress, for light. Yet here, a decade later, education triumphs."

Dr. Frazier acknowledged the coalition of supporters who have championed the survivors' cause, including the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, Stephen Basari, Aisha Bugu of the Yulish Bugu Foundation, and global advocates. AUN's commitment to empowering the Chibok girls and other underserved young women across the country remains unwavering. "Life has no rearview mirror. The future is yours to shape. We will never cease fighting until every survivor is home, educated, and empowered."

The event, organized by the Law Students Society (LSS), featured two student teams, Liberty and Equity, debating a simulated kidnapping case in the School of Law courtroom.

Presiding over the trial was Barr. Gabriel Adikwu, Principal of Elo-heem Chamber who served as the judge for the proceedings. The mock trial provided a platform for students to demonstrate their legal reasoning, courtroom procedure, and advocacy skills in a competitive setting.

The trial began with the arraignment of the accused, followed by examination-in-chief, cross-examinations, and legal arguments from both sides. Citing precedents and statutory provisions, the student counsels made their case before the judge in a session that lasted over three hours.

In the end, the court ruled in favor of the defense. The accused was discharged and acquitted due to the prosecution鈥檚 failure to present compelling evidence beyond reasonable doubt.

Barr. Adikwu commended both teams for their performance, noting their mastery of legal principles, confidence, and courtroom demeanor. 鈥淚n terms of your knowledge, applicability of relevant laws, your choices of words, and confidence, you are excellent,鈥 he said. Held at the e-Library Auditorium, the session was tailored for administrative, professional, and senior staff members of the institution.

Engineer Amina Abubakar, a seasoned computer scientist and human management expert, led the workshop with an insightful presentation on the fundamentals of AI. She introduced participants to the two main categories of AI: narrow (or weak) AI, which is designed for specific tasks, and general (or strong) AI, which is capable of performing a wide range of functions similar to human intelligence.

Abubakar showcased a variety of AI tools that can be applied to streamline workplace tasks, including ChatGPT, Gemina, Grammarly, Google Search, Notion, and Microsoft Dictate. Using real-time demonstrations, she illustrated how these tools can be integrated into daily workflows to boost productivity and effectiveness. However, she emphasized the importance of combining AI tools with critical thinking, ethical judgment, and professional knowledge to remain relevant and accountable in an evolving work environment.

In her opening remarks, AUN鈥檚 Vice President for Finance, Mrs. Nnenna Mosugu, underscored the importance of embracing AI in the workplace. She encouraged staff to adopt AI tools for better time management and improved output quality. Students Learn Strategies for Effective Academic Writing and Research /index.php/news-events/news/students-learn-strategies-for-effective-academic-writing-and-research /index.php/news-events/news/students-learn-strategies-for-effective-academic-writing-and-research In an effort to empower students with the tools for scholarly success, the AUN Writing Center, in collaboration with the English Department, hosted an interdisciplinary seminar on March 7, 2025, dedicated to refining academic writing and research skills. Held at the 24-Hour Library Space, the event brought together undergraduate and graduate students for an interactive workshop.

Dr. Richard Awoshiri Kamai, Chair of the English Department, shared strategies for improving academic writing across various levels of scholarship with the participants. Emphasizing the importance of ethical and effective communication, Dr. Kamai introduced students to John Swales鈥 Creating a Research Space (C.A.R.S.) model, a foundational framework for writing research article introductions. This approach provided participants with practical tools for understanding the rhetorical structure of academic texts and encouraged them to move beyond formulaic writing to become intentional, reflective scholars.

Participants were guided through the fundamentals of academic inquiry, critical thinking, and scholarly writing. The session on genre analysis was particularly impactful, helping them realize that academic writing involves more than grammar and structure, it鈥檚 about how knowledge is constructed and communicated within disciplines. This foundation prepares students for advanced writing projects such as honors theses, capstone papers, and postgraduate research.

Graduate students, meanwhile, focused on more advanced writing demands. Dr. Kamai discussed how the C.A.R.S. model applies to different sections of research papers, including introductions, methodologies, results, and discussions. Participants explored the nuances of identifying research gaps, articulating contributions, and aligning with disciplinary conventions. Real-world issues such as plagiarism and the misuse of AI tools were also addressed.

In his closing remarks, Professor Adewale James, Director of the Graduate School, commended the collaboration between the Writing Center and the English Department. He noted that initiatives like this help demystify academic writing and reduce the anxiety many students feel around research.

Speaking as part of the AUN President Lecture Series, Eggers introduced Entrepreneurial Marketing (EM) as a modern approach that relies on creativity, risk-taking, and customer-focused solutions to drive business growth.听

鈥淓ntrepreneurial marketing is the process of value generation through the creation of a unique combination of resource aimed at the utilization of opportunities to value by creatively combining resources to seize opportunities and drive profit, he said.鈥

Unlike traditional marketing, which typically follows a top-down structure starting with market segmentation and product placement, EM adopts a bottom-up approach. Eggers explained that this method begins by identifying a market need or opportunity and then developing solutions around it.

He encouraged businesses of all kinds, public, private, or start-ups, to adopt EM principles to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving marketplace. While traditional methods still have a role in sectors like hospitality or retail, Eggers advocated for experience-based learning and modern marketing strategies in more innovative, risk-taking industries. He noted that EM can be more cost-effective and attract loyal, long-term customers.

The lecture was delivered via Zoom and held at AUN鈥檚 24-Hour Library, drawing an audience of students and faculty interested in entrepreneurship and contemporary business practices.

The event took place at the 24-Hour Library Auditorium and was attended by graduate students from the school.

The seminar was led by Prof. Chidi Ononiwu, an expert in academic writing and research frameworks. A key focus of his session was the concept of gap spotting鈥攖he practice of identifying areas in literature that remain underexplored. He noted that the skill of gap spotting varies across disciplines and urged students to dig deeper than surface-level observations. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just about finding what鈥檚 missing,鈥 Prof. Ononiwu added. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about questioning why certain areas have been overlooked and assessing their relevance to your own research.鈥

He also provided a step-by-step guide to applying problematization throughout the literature review process, encouraging students to remain flexible as their research evolves and new insights emerge.

Held at the cozy 24-hour Library space, the event began at 8:30 p.m. and welcomed students to an evening of calm, creativity, and community. Attendees sipped on tea, munched on biscuits, and let their imaginations flow onto canvas in a relaxed setting far removed from the usual bustle of academic life.

The event was designed to help students decompress and connect through artistic expression. According to Kingdavid Onuegbu, a final-year Economics major and one of the event鈥檚 organizers, the idea for the session stemmed from the shared emotional and academic challenges students have faced throughout the semester.

鈥淭he inspiration came from the setbacks us students have faced this semester,鈥 Onuegbu said. 鈥淚t was a chance for us to come together and smile together despite the various adversities.鈥

Maxwell described her experience as 鈥渞elaxing,鈥 and highlighted the creative aspect as her favorite part. 鈥淭he fact I had to be creative really stood out for me,鈥 she said. 鈥淎fter the stress of this school, it helped to just relax and do something outside studying or partying. It is not every time we have music blasting and all. Sometimes peace and quiet is better.鈥

When asked if she would attend a similar event in the future, Maxwell鈥檚 answer was simple: 鈥淵es.鈥

As the paintbrushes dried and the teacups emptied, it was clear that Paint, Unwind, and Teatime offered more than just an artistic activity. It created a much-needed space for students to breathe, reflect, and connect. In the middle of SGA Week celebrations鈥攁nd as the current SGA administration prepares to wrap up its term鈥攖he event stood out as a meaningful reminder of the importance of mental wellness, creativity, and community on campus.

SGA Bonfire Night Sparks Joy with Music, Water Balloons, and Midnight Munchies /index.php/news-events/news/sga-bonfire-night-sparks-joy-with-music-water-balloons-and-midnight-munchies /index.php/news-events/news/sga-bonfire-night-sparks-joy-with-music-water-balloons-and-midnight-munchies On April 5, 2025, the Student Government Association (SGA) of the 黑料网 (AUN) lit up the night with a vibrant Bonfire Night event held at the sandlot beside the cafeteria. Beginning at 9 p.m., the evening offered a refreshing mix of excitement and relaxation, drawing a diverse crowd of students ready to unwind under the stars.

From the moment the flames came to life, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy. With cozy lighting, upbeat music, and a lively market space featuring student vendors, the sandlot transformed into a festive hub. A standout feature of the night was the water balloon fight, which added a thrilling twist to the event and left many soaked but smiling.

鈥淚 do enjoy bonfires鈥攖hat鈥檚 why I came,鈥 said Ekennedilichukwu Mokwunye, a fourth-year Computer Engineering major. 鈥淚鈥檝e experienced a couple of bonfires in school, and dare I say the bonfire might be the liveliest social event. That was my expectation, and it didn鈥檛 disappoint.鈥

Mokwunye praised the 鈥渕ix of personalities and friend groups,鈥 which he felt elevated the vibe. 鈥淢y favorite part of the evening was the water balloon fight. I was hit with the first balloon, so that was interesting,鈥 he added, laughing. 鈥淭he food was good. The entertainment was good as well. Yeah, I would definitely attend another SGA event like this.鈥

The mini marketplace was another highlight, where vendors offered a range of items from zobo and yogurt to accessories and sandwiches. Among them was Evalsam Gaul, a fourth-year Software Engineering major and CEO of Nightly Bread, who participated as a vendor.

鈥淭he bonfire was a great opportunity for me to advertise my business more. Some customers and students on campus even pleaded that I attend,鈥 Gaul shared. Selling out quickly, she rated her foot traffic and sales an impressive 8 out of 10. 鈥淚 sold sandwiches, which gave people

something to snack on while having fun at the bonfire,鈥 she said. However, she noted that the event logistics could have been better. 鈥淥n a scale of 1-10, I鈥檇 give it a 5 for organization. The setup could鈥檝e been smoother, especially with the electricity issues.鈥 Still, he confirmed that he would participate in future SGA events.

One of the most talked-about moments was undoubtedly the water fight, a spontaneous burst of laughter, strategy, and surprise. 鈥淭he fun and thrill of it got me excited,鈥 said Ritji Dimlong, a third-year Software Engineering student who took part. 鈥淪eeing everyone together and having fun was amazing.鈥

Dimlong admitted that although there was an initial plan to coordinate an attack, it quickly turned into a playful ambush. 鈥淚t was exhilarating and tense because you never know where someone could pop up and splash you,鈥 he recalled. 鈥淭here was a lot of energy. Yes, I would definitely participate again.鈥

Overall, SGA Bonfire Night proved to be a spirited success, combining social interaction, entrepreneurship, and light-hearted fun in a relaxed outdoor setting. While attendees and vendors alike pointed out areas for improvement, the overwhelming sentiment was one of appreciation for the memories created and the community brought together by the flames.

Under the Ubuntu for Peace initiative, the students are bringing together young learners from primary and secondary schools across Yola, and representatives of the Bole community, AUNs host community, to promote peace, environmental sustainability, and community interconnectedness. At an event held at AUN's School of Law Auditorium on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the students emphasized actionable steps to address climate change and foster unity among future generations.

The Ubuntu for Peace initiative is part of The Common Ground Initiative, a global competition organized by the Manara Center for Peace and Dialogue in Abu Dhabi and managed by EdVenture Partners in the US. The initiative focuses on addressing critical issues affecting peaceful coexistence in Adamawa State and beyond, with a focus on three interconnected challenges: farmers-herders鈥 clashes, water scarcity, and climate change.

Rooted in the Ubuntu philosophy 鈥 鈥淚 am because we are鈥, the Ubuntu4Peace team champions collective action and shared humanity as a pathway to sustainable peace and development. The initiative emphasizes collaboration, harmony, resilience, social cohesion, environmental restoration, and equitable resource management as a common ground for peaceful coexistence.

Isaac Utsewa Simon, a final year AUN student majoring in Information Systems and the team lead, Ubuntu for Peace, highlighted the initiative's mission. "Peace is foundational to our collective well-being. We plan to provide peace-building approaches because we believe in their power." He further emphasized, 鈥淥ur generation has a responsibility to shape a peaceful and sustainable future. Through Ubuntu4Peace, we are not just addressing conflicts but also tackling the environmental and resource challenges that fuel them. The Common Ground Initiative is a call for unity, action, and resilience, proving that when schools and communities work together, peace is possible.鈥

Speaking at the event, Mr. Raymond Obindu drew attention to the link between climate change and community challenges, urging attendees to take action. "Small steps will help; we must learn how to conserve water and energy. Turn off utilities when you're not using them," he said.

Dr. Peter Genger, Faculty Advisor, Ubuntu for Peace, emphasized the importance of collective responsibilities, stating, "Nature is a gift, and we must live in harmony with it. The Ubuntu for Peace initiative is committed to addressing water scarcity, restoring ecosystems, and promoting peaceful coexistence." He further invited stakeholders to collaborate with the initiative, 鈥渂y working together, we can build a harmonious and resilient future where both people and nature thrive as a common ground for coexistence."

Mr. Ayman Yusuf Usman, founder of the Aawa Tree Foundation, also shared this vision, calling on the students to become ambassadors of environmental care. "The Earth is entrusted to us, and we must protect it for future generations," he said.

Godiya Mark, a student of Government Technical College, Yola, shared her reflections: "I learned that taking care of our environment is crucial; it affects not just us but also plants and animals. Everything around us matters." The Ubuntu for Peace initiative represents a vital step toward building a more harmonious and sustainable world by instilling values of peace, environmental responsibility, and community support in young students. The organizers plan to expand their outreach through upcoming workshops and tree-planting campaigns, encouraging community members to join the transformative journey.

VP Finance Mosugu Advocates for Ethical Leadership and Resilience in Navigating Challenges听听 /index.php/news-events/news/vp-finance-mosugu-advocates-for-ethical-leadership-and-resilience-in-navigating-challenges /index.php/news-events/news/vp-finance-mosugu-advocates-for-ethical-leadership-and-resilience-in-navigating-challenges At the inaugural TEDxAUN event held at the 黑料网 (AUN) on March 18, 2025, Mrs. Nnenna Mosugu, Vice President of Finance, delivered a compelling talk on "The Intersection of Ambition, Ethical Leadership, and Resilience." Drawing from her extensive experience in finance and leadership, Mrs. Mosugu emphasized the critical role of ethical leadership and resilience in overcoming challenges and achieving sustainable success.

Mrs. Mosugu articulated how ethical leadership serves as the foundation for aligning personal ambition with integrity. "An ethical leader forms boundaries where ambition can dance and flourish," she stated. She further elaborated that ethical leadership is the catalyst necessary to influence change and shape culture, qualities that are essential for building a strong foundation. She illustrated her points by referencing iconic leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, who fought for freedom; Nelson Mandela, who championed justice and equity; and Martin Luther King Jr., who advocated for civil rights. These figures, she noted, exemplify how ethical leadership can drive transformative change and leave a lasting legacy.

She also shared her journey of resilience in her role at AUN, where she faced significant challenges such as rising inflation, currency devaluation, and fluctuating fuel prices. "As a university leader, I have faced my fair share of pressure to produce results in the face of dynamics beyond my control - things like inflation, interest rates, fuel prices, and currency devaluation," she said. "Yet, in the face of all these challenges, we were able to transform our organization from a state of crisis to stability."

Mrs. Mosugu defined resilience as "the ability to bounce back, the capacity to keep going despite pressure and anxiety." Encouraging attendees to cultivate this trait, "No matter the kind of leader you are, forces will come to test your strongest convictions. What will carry you through is your resilience, the compass that helps you navigate turbulent waters while staying within the bounds of ethical processes and protocols." She concluded.

Her insights left a profound impact on the audience, inspiring them to pursue their ambitions while upholding ethical standards and embracing resilience. The event also featured a lineup of self-motivated speakers from diverse backgrounds, each sharing innovative perspectives on pressing issues.
