AUN Joins 'Race to Zero', Commits to Climate Action

AUN has officially joined Race to Zero, the global movement rallying support from the education sector, businesses, cities, regions, and investors for a healthy resilient zero-carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth

AUN's membership was confirmed in a letter to President Margee Ensign received from the Organization on October 11, 2021.

"We are delighted to confirm that the has joined the Race to Zero for Universities and Colleges", the letter stated.

President Ensign later expressed delight with the new association:

“The , since its founding, has been absolutely committed to environmental responsibility. In today’s world, sustainable development is the only viable sort of development. We owe this to the world and to the future of us all.”

AUN joins 131 other global universities and colleges, 4,415 businesses, 199 cities, 220 investors, 35 regions, and 45 Healthcare Services working to cut emissions to net-zero by 2050 or sooner, while promoting sustainable and inclusive growth.

The movement was launched in June 2020 to mobilize awareness and commitment in preparation for the upcoming COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland in 2021.

By signing on to Race to Zero, the is joining like-minded institutions and individuals at the international level who share and practice the ideals of sustainability, environmental protection, energy conservation, rights advocacy, and community development activism which have been its cardinal principles since 2010.

AUN has also committed to remedial actions and initiatives to save the climate. The campus boasts many real examples of this.

Membership of Race to Zero obliges this University to showcase its commitment through engagement with staff, faculty, and students; sharing the same commitment through its social media channels, and sharing its experience as a signatory, and encouraging other institutions within its networks to become signatories.
