Celebrating African Heritage, AUN’s Women’s Leadership Council Champions African Beauty

The Women’s Leadership Council Empowerment Club, ºÚÁÏÍø (AUN), in collaboration with Miss Adanna Madueke, CEO of Our Heritage Academy, and Vitafoam, hosted the ‘African Women Empower Everyone’ event on March 24, 2025, at the 24-Hour Library Auditorium. The event brought together students from AUN schools, members of the Women’s Leadership Club, university students, and women from the Yola community to discuss the significance of African women’s empowerment.

The first session focused on the importance and beauty of natural African hair. Adanna Madueke, also the CEO of Adanna Natural Hairs, emphasized embracing natural hair as a symbol of African heritage. She educated participants on hair porosity, distinguishing between high-porosity hair, which absorbs moisture quickly but loses it easily, and low-porosity hair, which retains moisture longer but takes time to absorb it.

In an interactive session, participants demonstrated their knowledge of hair care techniques. Two students correctly identified the LCO method for hair moisture retention and received a cash prize. Another student won a hair warmer cap for answering a question on hair locking. Participants also shared personal experiences transitioning back to natural hair, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for African beauty.

Ms. Madueke concluded by buttressing the cultural significance of natural hair, urging women to confidently embrace it. The event ended with a closing remark from Miss Nma Olissa, President of the Women’s Leadership Empowerment Club, who thanked the organizers, sponsors, and attendees for making the event a success.
