Mr. Theoneste Manishimwe, the instructor for the Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Community Development Class (CDV) at the ºÚÁÏÍø (AUN), took his class beyond the walls of the classroom on 22nd April 2024 to nurture the student's social innovation skills.
He explained that the purpose of the class was to provide students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills through a combination of theoretical and community-based activities. The objective was to have a positive impact on the Community by helping the needy. He added, "This would improve the standard of living in the Community and contribute to the local economy. I am happy to report that the class was successful in achieving its purpose."
Hafsat Jibril Jambil, a Junior Communication and Multimedia Design Major, said participating in this initiative was incredibly fulfilling. She said the economic opportunities this initiative is providing to the less privileged and promoting entrepreneurship and self-sustainability within the Community were genuinely inspiring.
Fatima Mahmud, a junior in Chemical Engineering, expressed her excitement for the transformative effect of this initiative on her knowledge, skills, and passion for social change. Her view on how to provide invaluable support in navigating the complexities of social entrepreneurship was redefined. She added, "I advise other students to grab the opportunity of mentorship and guidance AUN has given them to engage in community service and make an impact."
The students offering the course visited and empowered a widow in Yola, the host Community of AUN to promote her business. Mama Lydia Joel expressed overwhelming gratitude for the contribution she received. She was deeply moved by the resources and knowledge she was armed with to build her business. "Thank you, my children, for blessing me with these resources, despite the life challenges people are going through. As a widow, I am grateful for the love and support I received from you people."
