Miss AUN Brings Hope to GBV Survivors with 'Voices of Strength' Initiative

Miss AUN, Michelle Niyang, hosted an emotional campaign titled 鈥淰oices of Strength鈥 at the AUN Security and Safety Lecture Hall on Sunday, November 17, 2024, to support survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The event, which included the donation of essential items such as medical supplies, detergents, and snacks, sought to provide encouragement and promote healing for victims who have faced the traumatic aftermath of sexual assault.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Michelle emphasized the importance of giving a voice to those who have been silenced by their experiences. She expressed her commitment to empowering GBV victims to move beyond their trauma and reclaim their lives. 鈥淭he idea of this initiative is to empower victims of gender-based violence to move forward from their trauma and not focus on the abuse,鈥 she stated. 鈥淚t is important to gently push them out of the dark into the light where they can pursue great things in life.鈥

The event also featured a moving poetry performance titled 鈥淎 Silence We Break,鈥 recited by Law major Bilkisu Abdulkadir Alkali. Following the performance, a panel of experts from the Hope Center, including Dr. Lot Luka, Ms. Phoebe M. Barde, and Ms. Blessing Solomon C., engaged in a discussion on GBV-related issues and answered questions from the audience. The discussion was met with touching responses from attendees
