Take Charge of Your Diet, AUN Scholar Advocates for Healthy Eating Habits

A distinguished virologist at the 黑料网 (AUN), Dr. Malachy Okeke, delivered an engaging presentation at a seminar titled 鈥淓at Smart, Live Strong鈥 organized by the AUN Cooking Club; the event was held at the 24-hour room AUN e-library on September 27th, 2024.

Dr. Okeke advised against late-night eating, linking it to stress, and encouraged participants to avoid this habit. He also emphasized the importance of breakfast, proper hydration, and getting at least eight hours of sleep each night. Additionally, he highlighted the health benefits of preparing home-cooked meals, rather than relying on outside food, citing examples like kilishi, which can be unhealthy due to high salt and preservative content. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always better to make your own food,鈥 Dr. Okeke explained, urging students to take charge of their diets for better health outcomes.

In her remarks, the Cooking Club President, Nzekwe Amarachi, shared the inspiration behind the club. 鈥淢y love for cooking and sharing the food I prepare motivated me to start the Cooking Club. I also noticed that my friends often cook differently from how I do, which made me think of creating an exclusive club where everyone can learn and contribute.鈥

The event, which attracted a diverse audience of students who are eager to learn how food choices and cooking methods directly impact their health and overall well-being, were truly inspired to learn how to make healthier food choices.

鈥淢y eyes are now opened on how our everyday food choices, especially carbohydrates, can be harmful if not properly balanced. It鈥檚 something I鈥檒l be more mindful of moving forward.鈥 Said Halima Ahmadu Hamman, a Public Health major.

Aisha Abubakar Ahmed, an Information Systems Major, said, 鈥淚 never realized how harmful late-night eating could be. The advice about stress and sleep really hit home for me. I鈥檒l definitely be rethinking my eating habits and trying to get more rest.鈥
