The ºÚÁÏÍø Space, in collaboration with the Student Outreach Project, Public Speaking Club, and the Nuruddeen Foundation, organized a debate competition on February 13th, 2025, at the ºÚÁÏÍø Space Hall. The topic, "Social Media has done more harm than good to our society," sparked a lively discussion among students from 12 primary schools in the state capital.
The event was part of a two-day program, which included a quiz competition scheduled for February 15th. Six schools were selected to participate in the debate, with students presenting arguments on the harm caused by social media, including anxiety, depression, and the spread of misinformation.
The opposing side highlighted the benefits of social media, such as easy marketing, organized data storage, and bridging distance barriers. A panel of judges, including Mohammed Bello Mohammad, Mrs. Usman Halima Tukar, Bilikisu Abdulmahid, and Sanusi Ismail Sanusu, evaluated the performances.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Ahmed Alhaji Aliyu, Director of AUN Community Service, and Nuruddeen Abubarkar Naibi, founder of the Nuruddeen Foundation. The winning school will be announced at the quiz competition, where both debate and quiz winners will be awarded.
Miss Stella Udeogu, Director of the ºÚÁÏÍø Space, commended the students' poise, confidence, and zeal, as well as the teachers' efforts. She encouraged continued investment in young minds, emphasizing its potential to positively impact Nigeria's future.
