Space Marks World HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

The Space at (AUN) observed World HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 11, 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness about the reality and existence of HIV/AIDS among the AUN community and beyond.

Guests included students from the School of Nursing Science, Law School, School of Legal Studies, and School of Medical Sciences, as well as representatives from the HIV/AIDS Awareness CDS group.

Mrs. Fara James, a partner of the Spring of Hope Non-Governmental Organization, facilitated the event. She shared statistics on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, citing a 2023 research report that approximately 1.6 million people in Nigeria live with the disease.

Ms. James emphasized the importance of sensitization and education in combating HIV/AIDS. She addressed common misconceptions about the disease.

A panel discussion followed, chaired by Dr. Paul Manga, Director of the AUN Health Center and faculty in the AUN School of Medical Sciences. Panelists included representatives from various schools and the HIV/AIDS Awareness CDS group. They discussed strategies for achieving the UN's goal of a safe society by 2030, including establishing HIV/AIDS awareness clubs in schools and providing accessible guidance and counseling services.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Miss Stella Udeogu, Director of the Space, and a group photograph.
